Grant description and purpose: A veteran's service office grant program is established to be administered by the commissioner of veteran's affairs consisting of grants to counties to enable them to enhance the effectiveness of their veteran's service offices.
Each county is eligible to receive an annual grant for the following purposes:
(1) to provide outreach to the county's veterans.
(2) to assist in the reintegration of combat veterans into society;
(3) to collaborate with other social service agencies, educational institutions, and other community organizations for the purposes of enhancing services offered to veterans;
(4) to reduce homelessness among veterans; and
(5) to enhance the operations of the county veterans service office.

Grant description and purpose: Per Grantee: Veterans do not check on VA benefits, many are oblivious. My goal is to get that message to them to check their benefits. This approach has been working will in Martin County for years. One simple message via Radio, News Paper adds and Promotional Items. Do you know what your benefits are? Have you heard about the PACT Act? Call Martin County Veteran Service Office 507-238-3230. We get many hundreds of calls inquiring about benefits. Each year we get more call thanks to the grant money getting that message out. These radio, newspaper ads and promotional items provide the outreach to my county veterans (Legislative priority 1). When I get them into my office, I work with the veterans in satisfying the other legislative priority's (reintegration of veterans into society, reduce homelessness and collaborate with the other agencies, organizations and institutions in enhancing services to veterans).
