This was a single source base on several factors.
1. There is no prescription delivery service in the area and DOC security, case worker, clinical or administrative staff must pick up medications. Big Fork was the nearest pharmacy reducing staff hours.
2. DOC fuel and labor costs were considered, and the location of Bigfork Valley Hospital was the most economical to the State of Minnesota.
3. Bigfork Valley Hospital was the quickest route to emergency care. Itasca county 911 dispatch and ambulance service was run from Togo's county, any ambulance calls would be and historically have been routed to Bigfork. Any other hospitals are too far or in a different county for emergency care.
