The purpose of the electrical inspection service is to verify compliance of installed electrical wiring to the safety standards identified in Minnesota Statutes, section 326B.35 and Minnesota Rules 3801.3619 and 3801.3620. Additionally, inspection service providers are required to enforce electrical licensing and inspection provisions of Minnesota Statutes, sections 326B.31 through 326B.399 and Minnesota Rules Chapter 3801.
The Department of Labor and Industry is mandated to administer the provision of the Minnesota Electrical Act which includes inspection of new electrical installations in all areas of the state that have not adopted a local inspection ordinance. Generally, these inspections are performed as part of an overall construction project, requiring timeliness of inspection service to enable construction projects to continue without delays. Approximately 180,000 electrical inspections are performed annually by contract electrical inspectors.
