Assessment of Capacity Estimation Methods for a Mu
89261W113
The purpose of this Contract was to assess the ultimate intersection capacity of various viable roundabout options. Traffic signals have software which estimates capacity very well and is a proven tool. However, roundabouts have a number of tools which estimate capacity and the results have been quite diverse. The purpose of this study was to determine which models are most effective and to develop procedures which will give the best results.

A Final Report summarizing the analysis and containing conclusions and recommendations for use of various capacity estimation packages for roundabout intersections was produced as a result of this project.

The Contract was necessary as the necessary expertise and resources were not available to complete this project in a timely manner.
