Truck Weight Compliance Education and Outreach
89261w182
MnDOT Strategic plan is to develop a safe, reliable and sustainable transportation system for the citizens of Minnesota. The overall goal of this truck weight compliance education and outreach program will protect the integrity, longevity and investment of Minnesota's roads, highways, and bridges from the damage caused by overweight trucks through improved understanding of and the resulting compliance with existing weight laws. The Truck Weight Compliance Training and community outreach project will promote on a state-wide level voluntary compliance; thereby, significantly reducing damage to public roads, highways and the resulting repairs and expense due to overweight vehicles. The freight hauling community is not fully aware of Minnesota weight laws or the proper application of weight laws and enforcement policies. Through the education efforts of this project, industry freight shippers, carriers and state and local transportation agency personnel will more accurately apply Minnesota Commercial Vehicle Weight Laws and enforcement policies resulting in greater compliance. In addition, freight carriers will learn a simplified process for calculating legal truck weights. A contract of this nature is required to complete this work because based on current work load and staff availability and expertise; this work cannot be completed by MnDOT
