Validation of Prestressed Concrete I-Beam Deflecti
89261W200
Recent changes by suppliers in the consistency of Portland cement have decreased the accuracy of older design equations for prestressed concrete bridge beams. The issue will be resolved by tracking actual beams through fabrication and installation. The benefit of this research will be an improved understanding of the variation in pre-stressed I-girder camber particularly between the predictions and the measured cambers at erection. This study will build on past research conducted nearly 15 years ago to investigate whether or not the results of the past research efforts are still valid relative to current observations, and will determine whether other findings such as vertical prerelease cracks, etc., may have an impact on the observations.
