Phase II Investigations; S.P. 8580-149

Summarize the purpose of the Contract, including why it was necessary:
State is in need of Contractor to complete a drilling investigation for the Dresbach Bridge Project. State has been engaged in on-going environmental evaluation of the TH I-90 Dresbach Bridge Project Corridor in advance of reconstruction of Brides 85801 and 85802 over the Mississippi River at the Minnesota/Wisconsin State Line. The preferred alternative includes replacement of the I-90 bridge, reconstruction of the bridge approaches, reconfiguration of the I-90/US 61 interchange and reconfiguration of the riverfront access. The project would replace the existing I-90 bridge over the Mississippi River with two separate bridges; one for eastbound traffic and one for westbound traffic. The intent of this contract is to identify to the extent possible any sources of contamination that could impact the project corridor, and to complete a drilling investigation of any suspect areas to identify the presence, magnitude and extent of contaminated soil and/or groundwater in the project corridor. The information obtained by this drilling investigation will be used by State to complete pre-construction planning for mitigation of contaminated media encountered during construction.
