Continuation of Corrosion Potential of Bromide
{Empty}
The State of Minnesota has been assisting the taconite processing industry in finding cost effective methods to control mercury in stack emissions. Reduction in stack mercury emissions are needed for this source if the state is to reach its long term goal of 90% reduction. Bromide injection is one of the methods most commonly used to control mercury at coal fired power plants and has been shown effective capturing mercury at taconite processing lpants. however bromide gas is corrosive to metals at high temperatures. These experiments explored the corrosion potential and mechanisms of bromide gas on the steel alloy grates used in taconite processing plants

Evaluate the performance of the work including an appraisal of the Contractor's Timeliness, quality, cost and overall performance in meeting the terms and objectives of the contract: the project was of exceptionally high quality. A number of Experimental difficulties were confronted in the early stages of the project, but all were overcome. the results were provided in a very clearly written report, including an interpretation that exceeded our expectations. Some alloys oxidize more quickly than others and this document used scientific principles to explain why this happens. the results and interpretations could be used together to evaluate corrosion at the conditions tested and also to extrapolate the results to metals and conditions not tested. updates and the draft report were all provided in a timely manner. A three month no cost extension was requested and granted well before the original deadline. The Final report arrived before the end of the extended contract ended This report was reviewed and all comments were addressed in the final report.
