County Geologic Atlas continuation
{Empty}
This contract is for continuation of a program carried out jointly by DNR Ecological and Water Resources and the Minnesota Geological Survey at the University of Minnesota. The work is a coordinated program in which the Minnesota Geological Survey prepares original geological maps by examining all available well and borehole logs; drilling new test holes and sampling subsurface materials; making field observations of soil, rock, and landforms; conducting laboratory analyses of sediment samples; compiling information from all sources; and making interpretations of the history of landform development and the origins and characteristics of the sediments making up those landforms.

See MMD Cert # 27388. Because the Minnesota Geological Survey has staff with experience and capability to work on these geologic mapping projects, and because of the legislative history, no other source was considered for this work. The Survey staff have particular expertise for geologic mapping that is not replicated elsewhere in Minnesota state government or in the private sector.

The Minnesota Geological Survey completed planned work on County Geologic Atlases, Part A, as stated in the amended work plan as specified in the contract scope of work within the timeframes of the contract. The Minnesota Geologic Survey also completed a planned program of exploratory drilling within specified timelines, as identified in the amended contract and contract scope of work to support geologic interpretation of existing well logs.
The quality is consistent with the very high quality of previous projects in the series.
The cost is reasonable and consistent with similar, related work by the Department of Natural Resources staff to complete the second part, or Part B, of each atlas project in the series.
The Minnesota Geological Survey met all the terms and objectives of the contract.
