Investigation of Water Resources
91652
Statewide investigation of water resources including operation of partial-record high-flow stream gauging stations, preparation of reports on drainage basin information and measurement of flow, velocity, depth and other data related to scour at bridges. This data is necessary for the hydraulic design of culverts and bridges in Minnesota and their safe operation.

USGS is the recognized expert in Minnesota for stream gauge operation. This was also a cooperative program where USGS contributed about ½ the effort to do the work. For MnDOT to contract with someone else for this work would have been much more expensive.

River Gauge data and scour monitoring results were available very promptly and contractor responded very well to requests. Some of the basin characteristics and analysis products ran behind, but were eventually delivered.
Work done is very high quality and reliable. USGS has good system of quality control for observed data and analysis products.
Working with USGS is a good value for MnDOT because they cooperate on this work with providing funds for about ½ the effort.
