Summarize purpose of the contract, including why it was necessary: The purpose of the project was to complete an independent evaluation of the MnDOT RTMC and IWZ Provider supplied Intelligent Work Zone systems on I-94 east of St. Cloud. It was necessary to enter into a contract in order to conduct an independent evaluation which included performing baseline data collection and analysis for the MnDOT RTMC-supplied system; IWZ Provider supplied travel time and stopped traffic advisory systems. The final project evaluation report provided MnDOT a summary of project results, conclusions and recommendations for future system deployments while developing a better understanding of the motorists’ expectations to include travel time information in construction work zones.
