Bed Bug Outreach in Minnesota
{Empty}
The purpose of this project was to develop Limited English Proficiency (ELP) bed bug management materials (factsheets/videos) and to continue to monitor bed bug phone/email and maintain www.bedbugs.umn.edu. Bed bugs continue to plague immigrant communities disproportionally in urban centers. Making available accurate and readily available information in different formats will serve the needs of these communities with limited resources to manage bed bugs. There are no other organizations or agencies in Minnesota developing or providing this type information.

The University of MN, Dept. of Entomology, houses a nationally recognized bed bug entomologist, Dr. Stephen Kells. The University of Minnesota has the necessary technical components and management required for a project of this scope. Additionally, there are no other organizations or agencies in MN developing or providing this type of information or hosting a bedbug information line. Formatting existing UM factsheets developed in a previous project into video format helped to provide materials expeditiously to the community needing this information. EPA awarded partial funding for this project to the Minnesota Department of Agriculture (MDA) in the amount of $35,000.00, which is categorized as a pass through contract to MDA’s partner in this project, the University of MN, however, the project could not be completed without the full funding.
