Geoarchaeological Investigations along TH 169
3261
The purpose of the stratigraphic and geoarchaeological investigations is to identify strata that have potential to contain archaeological deposits and to sample those strata to determine if archaeological deposits are present. Contractor will conduct subsurface investigations, consisting of coring to establish the soil-stratigraphic framework and to locate strata with potential to contain archaeological deposits. After the coring phase, Contractor will sample strata identified as having potential for buried archaeological deposits in machine-excavated trenches. The investigation will follow the methods presented in the 2006 Minnesota Deep Test Protocol Project, a document outlining the protocol for archaeological deep testing in the State of Minnesota. This work requires specialized knowledge in the identification and evaluation of archaeological sites on short notice. There are no state employees who can accomplish this.
