provision of locum tenens physicians

Recruitment and retention of Licensed Independent Practitioners is at a critical point in mental health. DC and T as well as most governmental agencies have significant difficulties competing in the health care marketplace with private and for-profit corporations. To level the playing field CABHS and other units of DC and T have contracted with Locum tenens companies to identify specific individuals who are movable and compatible with the goals and mission of Dc and T. CABHS has been extremely successful in finding vendors to provide the clinicians necessary to do our work of admitting, evaluating, treating and discharging patients. Within a hospital system with regulation from the federal government through CMS we depend on LIP for the work that we are charge with.

Contract has worked closely with the hospital to find the high level clinician necessary to fulfill our obligations to provide mental health services to our patients. We have not had difficulty with delays or interruptions in service from this agency.
The quality of the product has been variable. One clinician was unable to decide what his life goals and plans were and made inconsistent decisions. The other clinican is more stable and reliable. THe contractor was informed of these deficiensies and stregths.
The cost is in keeping with the other hosptial systemts payment for these same services.
The contractor has been flexible and adaptable to changing needs of the hospital

One of the physicians provided by the contractor left under circumstances of considerable turbulance. I was told about angry and non professional behaviors and this was communicated to the contractor.
