988 Lifeline Culturally Specific Messaging

The purpose of this contract was to increase community awareness about the availability of the 988 Suicide & Crisis lifeline through relevant culturally specific messaging and promotion within the Black/African American community in Minnesota. 988 is a new three-digit number that anyone can contact if they need mental health support. It was necessary to ensure that all Minnesotans know about the availability of this service. Further, it was critical that messaging and promotion were culturally relevant and from a trusted messenger from the community.

The contractor completed all deliverables in a timely manner. The responded quick to feedback and provided realistic timelines for when we could expect to receive their deliverables.
The contractor produced engaging content that met the needs of this contract. Through this work, they were able to raise awareness about the 988 Lifeline through digital platforms, podcasts, commercials, and a community event. The contractor worked with community members and demonstrated they were able to reach the intended audience.
The contractor was transparent with cost and utilized their budget to maximize media reach. They came in under budget and ended the contract with $303 remaining of the $100,000.
The contractor performed as expected. Although they are a marketing/communications agency, working on topics related to mental health and suicide prevention was new for them. They were willing to engage with MDH staff and learn about best practices for communication around suicide. They kept in communication with MDH staff and executed all deliverables included in their contract.
