Great Lakes Restoration Initiative: Flute Reed Restoration Project

The Flute Reed River is a DNR designated trout stream that discharges into Lake Superior near Hovland, MN. The watershed has experienced profound changes in its forest canopy and hydrologic response patterns over the years, which in turn have changed the drainage patterns in this watershed. These changes have negatively affected the fish population of the river. Restoration of the Flute Reed River Watershed will help rehabilitate and protect Lake Superior's fish habitat and water quality. This will benefit watershed landowners, area residents, recreational users, the MPCA, Cooke County, the Flute Reed Partnership, and the Cook County Soil and Water Conservation District.

The contractor had excellent schedule maintenance. The project was not completed within the original schedule, but only because changes in some of the project partners and scope impacted the project, and required contract amendments.
The contractor provided excellent data quality, communication, responsiveness, subcontractor management, project planning and resource utilization. Work plan objectives were met, and the contractor showed improvement in the quality of reports over time. The contractor showed an excellent capacity for creativity and innovation, and adhered to the program requirements.
The contractor was excellent in terms of accuracy of the budget they developed. There were two change orders and two amendments required, due to changes in partners and scope. There were no disputed invoices, and no incorrectly submitted invoices.
Overall, this contractor's performance was excellent.
