Measuring the Efficiencies of Tow Plows and Wing Plows
The objective of this contract is to develop a Decision Support Tool to create a pathway for agencies to incorporate new
emerging snow clearing technologies in their legacy winter operations. This was planned to be accomplished via an
algorithmic approach to modeling plow operations facilitating the inclusion the six designated extendable plow attachment
products. The Decision Support Tool will predict plowing coverage outcomes. The tool will be highly user interactive and
customizable to be suitable for the wide array of climate zones comprising the DOT snow states. DOT surveys will be essential
for Decision Support Tool development, but will primarily be utilized to develop the tool’s algorithms and provide default data
values. This methodology would transcend conventional approaches of comparable studies that simply survey current DOT
practices, average normalized data and interpret trends.
