COVID-19 Community Engagement

The Multicultural Autism Action Network will partner with the Autism Society of Minnesota and Hennepin County Healthcare to continue a series of sensory friendly vaccine events, focusing outreach efforts on multicultural communities. There is a need for sensory friendly events because there are many barriers to getting autistic children vaccinated: fear of medical procedures, sensory overload from being in a clinical setting, or simply just feeling overwhelmed. The goal is to eliminate as many of those barriers as possible, provide a source of reliable science-based information, and provide a vaccination option for kids and families who may need a little extra time and space.

The overall performance of the contract was great. The Contractor planned to partner with Hospitals and other organizations for their COVID-19 vaccine events; however, the Contractor experienced some challenges in finding a vaccine provider partnership for their sensory friendly CVOD-19 vaccine clinics, which caused setback in working on their proposed activities. However, toward the end of the contract period, Contractor found a vaccine provider and hosted a series of vaccine events.
