Northwest Indian Community Development Center (NWICDC) is the only organization that provides Indigenous breastfeeding counselor training and support that is culturally specific and community-led. This is a trusted organization and is able to outreach successfully in this community. They serve as an intertribal intermediary to neighboring Nations of White Earth, Red Lake, Leech Lake and the Minnesota Chippewa Tribe. NWICDC and partners such as Mewinzha have the in-depth knowledge and understanding of the culture which reclaims the traditional Anishinaabe birthing, breastfeeding and postnatal care practices.
